Seville: a weekend of history, rhythm and the essence of Andalusia

Seville is one of those cities that you fall in love with from the very first moment. A well-planned weekend is more than enough to discover the best of the Andalusian capital: must-see sights, the best places to eat and the city’s most authentic charm.

Saturday: the historic heart of Seville

The day begins early in the Barrio de Santa Cruz, the city’s old quarter. Its narrow streets, flower-filled courtyards and the light filtering through the orange trees offer the most quintessentially Sevillian of welcomes. From there, a short walk takes you to the three must-see monuments: Seville Cathedral, the largest Gothic cathedral in the world, the Giralda and the Real Alcázar. It’s advisable to book tickets in advance, as demand is extremely high all year round.

In the afternoon, the walk continues past the Archivo de Indias, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and along the River Guadalquivir. Crossing the Triana Bridge at sunset is one of the most photogenic moments of any visit to Seville.

Sunday: Seville beyond the city centre

Sunday is the perfect time to visit the Plaza de España, one of the city’s most spectacular squares, and then take a stroll through María Luisa Park. The Seville Museum of Fine Arts and the Macarena district round off a perfect day out for those who want to venture beyond the main tourist trail.

Where to stay to make the most of every minute

The key to enjoying Seville over a weekend lies in the location of your accommodation. The Tayko Sevilla hotel, situated at Puerta de Jerez 3, is one of the city’s most strategic starting points. Just a few metres from the Real Alcázar, the Cathedral and the River Guadalquivir, it allows you to explore Seville’s most iconic sights on foot without needing transport. Puerta de Jerez is the historic gateway to the Barrio de Santa Cruz, making it the natural starting point for any city tour each morning.

A weekend in Seville is more than just a trip. It’s an experience that stays with you, and with the right planning, nothing is left to chance.
