Day trips from Seville: the best destinations less than two hours away

Seville’s geographical location in the heart of Andalusia makes it the perfect base from which to explore some of Spain’s most fascinating destinations. Here is a selection of the best destinations to combine a stay in Seville with a day trip.

Córdoba

Córdoba, situated approximately 45 minutes by train from Seville, forms – together with Seville and Granada – the ‘magic triangle’ of Andalusian tourism. Its Mosque-Cathedral is one of the most impressive monuments in the Islamic world and one of Spain’s most visited World Heritage Sites. The Jewish quarter (La Judería), the Synagogue, the Alcázar of the Christian Monarchs and the famous Patios of Córdoba round off an extraordinary visit. Its proximity by train makes it the easiest and most popular day trip from the Andalusian capital.

Jerez de la Frontera and Doñana National Park

Jerez de la Frontera, just over an hour’s drive from Seville, is the world capital of sherry and authentic flamenco. The wineries, the Royal School of Equestrian Art, the cathedral and the atmosphere in its streets make it well worth a full visit. On the way, if you take a detour towards the coast, Doñana National Park is about 45 minutes from Seville and is one of Europe’s most important natural areas: marshlands, unspoilt beaches, Iberian lynx and flamingos. A guided tour of the park is a unique nature experience that goes hand in hand with a day out in Jerez.

Cádiz

Cádiz, situated approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes from Seville, is the oldest city in the Western world and one of the most special in Spain. Its location on a peninsula surrounded by the sea, its city beaches, its historic centre full of charming spots, its seafood cuisine and the festive atmosphere of its residents make it the perfect getaway from Seville. The Cádiz Carnival is the most famous in Spain, but the city is well worth a visit at any time of year.

Italics

Itálica, just 30 minutes from Seville, is a must-see for lovers of classical history. This Roman archaeological site, situated just 9 kilometres from the city centre, was founded in 206 BC and is the first Roman city to have been established on the Iberian Peninsula. Its ruins, amphitheatre and the site as a whole offer a fascinating glimpse into Andalusia’s Roman past. What’s more, Game of Thrones fans will recognise it as one of the series’ filming locations.

Granada

Although Granada is about three hours’ drive from Seville – a little further than the shorter day trips – it is another of the most popular destinations for those with more time to spare. The Alhambra, the Generalife, the Albaicín neighbourhood and the view of the Sierra Nevada in the background make for an experience that is hard to beat.

From Tayko Sevilla, everything is close by
